Define Your Branding Message

 

The second step is the Most Crucial, but also the most over looked. To begin you must first determine WHY you want to create a Personal Brand in the first place. So, why do you want to create a Personal Brand? Keep in mind that you don’t have to own a company or be on television to have the desire to create a Personal Brand. You really just need to know why you want it.

I could continue on to make this the most verbally flowered post, but Simply put, Your Why is Your Branding Message.

You have a desire for your Voice and Your Message to be Heard, but right now you known one of two things: Your message is not being heard, or you aren’t accessing the group of people that could really be benefiting from your message. It is also quite possible that you aren’t sharing your message at all, because you don’t perceive that you or your message is worthy of being heard. I am here to tell you that Anyone can benefit from developing a Personal Brand. All are Worthy. All Messages are Worthy of being Heard.

You may want to start a business, or begin a career in broadcasting. You may want to become an actress, or media mogul. You may just want your children to listen to you. Can I get an Amen on that oneπŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ». All of these scenarios can and will be impacted by your personal brand, in fact, they already are. You are already walking around each day with a Personal Branding Message, it just may not be portraying an accurate picture of who you truly are, making it impossible to hear your message.

So my question today is, “What is your Why?” Could you, right now, define exactly what your why is? Is this why personal and deep down in your heart, or is it laying superficially on the surface? I truly want you to dive as deep as you can into your why. In sales this is commonly called “the need behind the need.” The surface level need of wanting to save money could have many underlying needs. A person does not want to save money, simply to save money, there is a greater need. That may be retiring gracefully, it also may be because of a job loss and fear of losing their home.

How to Better Define Your Why

Journaling over the next month is one of the best ways to help you define your why. If you currently have a surface level why, like “I want to start a business and make more money or have more freedom of time,” as far as personal branding is concerned, this is not a why. This creates no Branding Message. This is what I would call White Noise. This is why no one is listening. Dig Deep on Why specifically you want that. Through journaling daily over the next month you will intentionally dedicate an amount of time to actually thinking about your Why. Gift yourself and your future brand 5-10 minutes each day and write. What are your true dreams. Why do you have those dreams. Do not be afraid of what you uncover. This is your time, and your journal. Allow your heart to spill out in written form all over those pages. Press in to that time, and be as honest with yourself as you possibly can. I think that we can get really swept away with what we are exposed to on a daily basis. Right now you may think you want to live the life of some of the people you see on instagram, or in the media. You may want a the lifestyle of your mentor. (Side Note: If you have a mentor, now would be a good time to get in contact with them. Having an outsider’s opinion from someone you trust, who is regularly trying to pull the greatness out of you may see indicators of your why, that you haven’t been able to express just yet. They should also be able to help you dive deep on your Why without masking or altering your perspective.). You may want these things, but why do you want them? Painting the picture over the next month will help you develop this why, and tap in to who you truly are. You absolutely need to be clear on this before proceeding further down the path of Personal Branding. Otherwise you will be improperly branded which causes a whole heap of other issues! Let’s not even go there!!
