Helping Your Child Process Emotions Through Journaling

Today we are looking at how we can help our children start journaling.  Journaling is a great way to process all of those emotions and feelings that we are experiencing this Global Pandemic.  It is also a great way to capture those wonderful moments that we want to remember.  my two most favorite journals that Daisy and I use together are The Loom Journal and the Write The Word Journal, both of which are guided.   Pick something that is age appropriate and that has guided subject matter that your child is interested in.

Tips to help get your child started:

  1. Remember that it doesn't have to be perfect!  That goes for you too!  Make a mess, draw pictures, scribble!  All of these help to put our emotions out on the paper so we can start to process.  Many of the younger children will use pictures or inventive spelling to show what they are thinking about.
  2. Make journaling a habit.  This could be a weekly habit, or a...

How To Use Planning to Relieve Overwhelm

Today I had the honor of sharing one of my passions on Indy Style (insert heart eyes emoji).

I have always loved planning, and it has been especially useful in this season of life.  We have so many activities going on inside of our home,  it can be quite a task to orchestrate each piece. But, I find that is true with many seasons of life.

I remember the first time that I bought a paper planner.  I was in high school, and had just taken the first of many personality tests.  One of the negative traits of my personality from that specific test was that I would have many wonderful ideas, but that I would accomplish nothing, unless I began to write down the ideas and PLAN.  I read that, grabbed my keys and headed straight to the mall to pick out the perfect planner.  I used that planner for a few years, and then stumbled across all of the wonder that was the Franklin Covey planning system.  I took the course, read the books,...

5 Ways to Make Your Easter Special This Year PLUS 6 DIY Easter Basket Fillers

5 Ways to Make Your Easter Special This Year PLUS 6 DIY Easter Basket Fillers

It goes without saying that this is an Easter that we will never forget.  But aside from the memories of the time that we are currently living in, how do we still make this Easter an incredibly special experience?  I took a few of my favorite details from the past few Easter Celebrations and modernized them to fit our lifestyles today.

  1. Get Dressed Up!  Go ahead and put on your Sunday best, break out the white shoes, and spring dresses.  This will help you to feel like a Million Bucks, which will make you and your family feel special.
  2. Watch an online Easter service.  If you like the tradition of taking communion, have some juice and either bread or crackers handy.  There are many different local churches that have shifted to online services, but if the church that you attend does not provide a service, it is ok to check out another church.
  3. Take your...

Letters To My Daughter - Hope

To My Daughter,

I want to show you that I have hope, because I want you to know what it is like to have hope amidst darkness.

I want to show you that it is okay to be hopeful, and that being hopeful nearly always results in a positive outcome.  I want to show you how to hope so that you will naturally have hope as your default mode of operation, instead of worry. The past few weeks we have been in a happy little bubble of hope, and it is my goal that you will be able to look back on this time as an adult, and remember that hope, peace, faith and love were at the center of this experience. We aren’t keeping you 100% completely sheltered, you know that things are quite a bit different in our lives right now. You know that there is a virus, and we have encouraged you to ask questions. We encourage your questions, because we know that this is hard to process as an adult, and even harder to process as a 6 year old, whose life has changed so much in the past 13 days.

My Word for 2020

Have you ever chosen a word for the year?

Maybe you have heard friends talk about a word that they have chosen for the year and wondered, “How on earth do you pick one single word, much less set focus on that word FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR??!” Maybe you are a seasoned “Word of the Year” user?

I know I felt the same way all of the years leading up to 2019. I would hear friends and family members proclaim their words on New Year’s Eve via social media. I see clients set up acrylic letters on their desks with words like “intention” or “write” and I always felt a little confused by the words that they chose, and even more confused at how they chose that word all together.

Last year, through the miracles of Instagram, I stumbled upon a goal planner. I say stumbled, but if you know how passionate I am about paper planners you know the truth is that I was most likely looking for something that would fill the need that I had on hand. I had just...

Legalism Vs Grace

This past Monday, I did not even realize that it was a Monday before I had put on makeup. I know that I am truly in the habit of going makeupless each and every Monday, or at least I had been. It’s in my planner, it is in my digital calendar, and it did not happen. When I was reaching for my mascara that morning, I started going through the activities of the day in my head. You see, I had been in the habit of putting on full makeup for the past 2 days due to a video shoot, and then a music video shoot that were both over the weekend. So the makeup went on, regardless of the date. So here I am, putting my mascara on and thinking about the day. I had a particular appointment that day that I was literally thinking, “I wonder if that would be awkward for them, since I won’t have makeup on?”. This was my very thought as I was swiping that mascara on to my lashes. I looked in the mirror and instantly felt guilty. I felt like a fraud. I felt like I was lying to...

Why MakeuplessMonday?

Why Makeupless Monday?

This question keeps coming up across the community, and I love it!

So why did you create #makeuplessmonday?

I had to think about it for a while, because for so many years I have been sharing this thought process privately with clients.  I had only really recently thought about going beyond my inner circle and clients since Fall of last year.  Have you ever thought,  “If only I could __________, then that might help other people that I will never have the chance to meet?”  I’ve been thinking a lot about that lately.  Maybe you see something that you feel needs to be addressed, but you aren’t quite sure that what you have to say will make an impact. Maybe your heart will just end up out there in the vast abyss of knowledge that is available?  The first #makeuplessmonday video that I shared was just 9 weeks ago, and my honest intention with the first post was the accumulated passion of years with...

Below you will find 4 other tools that helped me tremendously, that I still use with clients each and every week.  I have worked with...

Small Steps that Heal Facial Relation

Small Steps that Heal Facial Relation

Thank you for coming back!  I know that last week’s message was on the heavy hitting side, and I am proud of you for starting the journey to healing. I know that many of you saw yourself inside the identifier questions.  Now that you have had a week to think about your initial responses, how do you feel? Do you think that you may have been a little too hard on yourself?  Do you still find that you are too imperfect? That you are too uneven? That you are too *Fill In The Blank*?

I can imagine that you want a solution that will heal you overnight. I know that I did, and I wish I had that to offer you. I can tell you that there is no overnight, painless solution. What I can say is that this is a process, and that the pain you initially feel will go away. Healing poor facial relation will never be as painful as the disconnect that caused your poor facial relation. Learning how to see our own worth while being bombarded by...
