Starting the New Year off with a Capsule Wardrobe
New Year resolutions are starting to roll in. It is no surprise that at the top of the list this year is decluttering. This seems like a standing resolution, but after spending a significant amount of time at home this year, we have all become more aware of all of the “extra” we have in our lives. We have also gone through a significant shift in our daily style needs and expectations. With lounge sets on the rise, and softer fabrics becoming more of a staple, we have really paved the way for a fresh look at our own personal style. I want you to know, that it is ok to embrace that shift in style and move forward with a more streamlined approach to wardrobing.
The 10/30 Capsule Wardrobe is my Signature Capsule Wardrobe. Simplistically, the 10/30 means 10 items of clothing that make at least 30 outfits. This all began in 1998, when I started creating travel wardrobes for celebrities. Something light to travel with, but would...
I was watching clips of New York Fashion Week, and experienced a sickening in my stomach. What my eyes kept seeing, I could not hide from. It was a twinge of pain followed by a heavy sigh. Shoulder Pads.
In all fairness, I knew that they would be coming back, as styles tend to do. But shoulder pads?? Now?? The figurative cherry on top of all of the other flavors of dread that have piled into this ice cream Sunday we call 2020, is, of course, shoulder pads.
Now, personally, I already know to my core that shoulder pads are a bad option for my athletic build. But this feeling of dread was not due to visions of me cutting shoulder pads out of my own clothes. Nope, I know better.
The feeling was a cumulation of more than 2 decades of consulting experience with clients. I have to stay ahead of the trends for my clients, they are on television, and many people see them. And just like every other trend that flies in...
So you have all of your holiday attire ready for the events on your calendar, but how on earth will you be able to stay warm without ruining the overall look of your ensemble? You want to make an entrance, and be able to greet friends, family and coworkers in confidence, but how do you know which style to pick?
Coat lengths are really the best place to start, because we want to make sure that the overall visual impact makes sense. Coat lengths are best determined by your own personal torso.
If you have a shorter torso, rely on a shorter coat.
A longer torso can be best flattered by a longer coat.
If you are unsure how your torso measures up, consider these two points:
1) How do you like your jeans to fit? If you prefer a high rise jean, chances are you have a longer torso. The preference for a mid rise jean means that you have an average torso so choosing a hit length jacket will best suit your...
Why Makeupless Monday?
This question keeps coming up across the community, and I love it!
So why did you create #makeuplessmonday?
I had to think about it for a while, because for so many years I have been sharing this thought process privately with clients. I had only really recently thought about going beyond my inner circle and clients since Fall of last year. Have you ever thought, “If only I could __________, then that might help other people that I will never have the chance to meet?” I’ve been thinking a lot about that lately. Maybe you see something that you feel needs to be addressed, but you aren’t quite sure that what you have to say will make an impact. Maybe your heart will just end up out there in the vast abyss of knowledge that is available? The first #makeuplessmonday video that I shared was just 9 weeks ago, and my honest intention with the first post was the accumulated passion of years with...
