3 Steps to Remove a Gel Manicure in 20 minutes

3 Steps to Remove a Gel Manicure in 20 Minutes

With quarantine in effect, it has been a few weeks since any of us has been able to get to a nail salon.  If you were like me, and using gel manicures you know that they can be a pain to remove at the salon let alone trying to tackle it at home.   I have had to use this 3 step method several times in the past when I haven't had time to make it to the salon, and it works wonders!

First here are the items that you will need-

  • A Nail File
  • Cotton Pads or Cotton Balls (I've used paper towel in a pinch)
  • Aluminum Foil cut into 4" x 4" sections
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • A cuticle scraper or the blunt end of a set of tweezers

This is a pretty quick at home removal, so keep in mind that you can remove one hand full of polish at a time, if you need to have access to one of your hands for another activity.  Here are the steps:

  1. File the face of each of your nails to break through the shiny top coat of polish.  Make sure to get around...

Heal Cracked Hands With This Easy Overnight Treatment

Today we are talking about those rough chapped hands that many of us are experiencing right now.

Even if you were an avid hand washer leading into this current season of life, chances are that you are washing your hands even more frequently than before.  All of this hand washing is great to rid ourselves of potentially harmful germs, but the downside is the loss of moisture.  When our skin starts to lose that much needed moisture to stay healthy, it starts to breaks down.  This is when we start to experience roughness that can quickly snowball into cracks and breaks within the skin.  So how do we take care of our skin, once it has started to breakdown?

The first idea that many have, is to not wash our hands as frequently, and I can honestly not recommend that as an option right now.  Keep washing your hands, as frequently as you need to during the day.  We are going to focus on the best time to heal our skin, which is overnight.  Our cellular...

Midlife Makeup Techniques

As we start to loose a little elasticity in our skin we find that our same old makeup routine, just doesn’t do the job like it once did.  Here are a few Do’s and Don’ts that can help you freshen up your look!

DO choose a liquid foundation over a powder or mineral based foundation.  I know this may sound counterintuitive, but a lighter weight liquid foundation has less tendency to settle in to fine lines and wrinkles than a powder.  Choosing something lightweight and really sheering out the foundation in the areas with the fine lines is the key.  Many liquid foundations have great skin care components, and can really help in combating additional aging. Choose one that has a complimentary texture for your skin.  If you have more dry skin, choose a foundation that has a richer texture.  If you find your skin to be more oily, choose a foundation that has a lighter texture.

DON’T pull and stretch the skin around your eye area! ...

The True Cost of Effortless Beauty

The True Cost of Effortless Beauty

This message has been on my heart for quite some time now.  I feel and see so many women chasing the image of effortless beauty every day.  We want it, at least a piece of it for ourselves.  The thought that I could just roll out of bed, pull my hair tie out and perfectly beautiful waves of golden hair would just fall out drenching my face with the glow of much needed highlights.  Throw on a pair of well broken-in jeans, maybe a thermal on a morning like today, and just be, well, effortless.  It sounds so freeing, so captivating, and yet so realistic. What does Effortless Beauty actual entail?

We see the fashion blogger that seems to have everything together.  Her hair perfectly coiffed and her eyebrows on point.  Doing nothing really, just floating along the sidewalk looking off into the distance like she could take on the world, and she does. Effortlessly.

We see a mom on Instagram that has a perfectly simple...

You Are Not Alone

You Are Not Alone

Let me first start by saying that when I started the Disclosed Blog, that I never imagined that I would be in a place that I would comfortably talk about my own battle with Facial Relation.  In the past few weeks, I have seen so much growth and strength building up across a community of women that are hungry for help. Hungry for a solution.  For many, they didn’t even know that their struggles were shared by so many other women.  You don’t amount nearly 30,000 followers “overnight” without sharing something of value that changes the lives of those around you, or at least gives hope. I am not just talking purely about social media following, I am talking about an entire community that has surrounded me and has confirmed that what I am not afraid to talk about is helping them in some way.  My email has been flooded, I have been contacted by friends that I haven’t seen in 25 years, and clients that are proud of me for...

A Permanent TIME OUT - The Dream

A Permanent TIME OUT

If I would have known 21 years ago that I would have been sitting here with you and having this conversation, I would have kept a journal of all of the negative things that clients have told me about themselves over the years.  I would have kept it to show you that you are not alone in this world. That you are not alone in this journey to a permanent time out of self hatred. In my career I have worked with so many brilliant and talented people.  Even the most brilliant and talented people that I have worked with had a list of words that vexed or consumed them.

I wish that I could tell you that this process was easy.  I wish that I could wave a magic wand and take away all of the hurt and pain that words have caused you over the years.  I wish that I could go back in time and tell 4 year old you that you are beautiful, that you are wonderful, that you are strong, and that you are worthy.

Remember the Time Out you gave yourself...
